So my band has been playing a shows and getting our name out there for about 2 years (granted we sucked for about 6-8 months of that time) and it doesn't seem like we are catching on yet in the local scene. We hardly ever get people that aren't friends of ours to shows. We pass out flyers and stuff and it still doesn't seem to work. I don't think we suck or anything, i mean we're pretty tight live and we have stage presence. So I ask you, how do you guys go about getting people to shows?
Promo the hell out of it....
get things that people would like that come to your shows.
do u guys tour much? i dont know how it goes over in the states but my bands are always traveling around Australia.
last band i was in was going interstate every couple of months. sometimes it might cost u a bit, sometimes u might break even. but always have merch to sell.
at least if u sell some merch and dont break even you can look at it like a cheap holiday doing something you love.
don't rely on your local scene to get you there.
it just seems u get less respect from local people in the early days.
when u go interstate and people at shows see you have done some traveling, they are more likely to give u a chance. because it looks like your more professional then just a local band. i know your country is a lot larger but go for it dude.
(at least u dont have 10-12hour drives between cities and only a few of them.)
doing it that way over here i managed to get noticed and play 2 shows with God Forbid in brisbane and sydney. played with Lamb of God, The Black Dahlia Murder, Cephalic Carnage and a few others.
just get out there a go for it, i remember dallas drilling this into me in brisbane.
Good Luck dude and i had a listen, Sweet Tunes!!!!
